Mike Jorgensen is the Managing Partner of Senior Counsel Attorneys at Law, located in the historic Five Points area in Jacksonville, FL.
He was admitted to the Florida bar in 1987 and earned his master's degree (LL.M) in Taxation from the University of Florida. Mr. Jorgensen started his career with the Internal Revenue Service in 1986 and represented the IRS in both the United States Tax Court and Bankruptcy Courts.
After leaving the IRS, Mr. Jorgensen entered private practice in 1990 and represented taxpayers before the IRS, helping businesses and individuals in commercial and tax matters. In 1997, he established a legal clinic in Jacksonville, FL to teach law students about elder law.
Today, after leaving teaching, Mr. Jorgensen represents clients by assisting them with durable powers of attorney, health care surrogates, asset protection, living wills, living trusts, last wills and testaments, special needs trusts, estate/transitional planning, obtaining public benefits including Medicaid, business entity choices and succession, federal tax controversy (at both audit and collection levels), bankruptcies, guardianships and probates.
Mr. Jorgensen was also active in the civic community and with non-profit groups, such as serving as a director and secretary of the Cathedral Foundation of Jacksonville, Inc., Urban Jacksonville, Inc. (n/k/a Aging True), president of ElderSource in Action and serving as a member of the ethics committee for Hospice of Northeast Florida. He is currently a board member of Gateway Community Services and teaches for Shepard Center of Orange Park, a non-profit senior citizen education center, where he was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" in 2019.
